The features of AClock are listed by their menu commands.
APPLE MENU: ABOUT ACLOCK...
Provides information about the program.
APPLE MENU: REGISTER...
To access all of the features of AClock, you must register your copy. You can get a registration number by sending in your $5 ShareWare fee. Use the form at the end of this document.
Once you've registered, this menu item will become dimmed.
FILE MENU: AUTO BACKGROUND ON LAUNCH
When this option is selected, AClock will put itself in the background when it is launched. This is useful if AClock is in your StartUp Items folder and you want your Finder to be in the foreground when startup is complete.
FILE MENU: QUIT
This command should be fairly self-explanatory. All of your settings (including your custom clockface) are saved when you quit.
EDIT MENU: UNDO
AClock does not support UNDO.
EDIT MENU: CUT
EDIT MENU: COPY
EDIT MENU: PASTE
EDIT MENU: CLEAR
These menu items work as they would in any other Macintosh application. Some items may not be available at some times depending on the kind of information in the clipboard (for example, if there's no picture in the clipboard, you naturally will not be able to paste)
See the notes in the next section about pasting a PICT type picture to use as a custom clockface.
ACLOCK: ICONIZE / DE-ICONIZE
The iconize feature shrinks the clock to the size of an icon, and de-iconize does the reverse.
ACLOCK: SET TIME & DATE...
Personal computers are infamous for their poor clocks. Don't ask me why a $5000 computer can't keep time as well as a $5 wristwatch.
You can use AnywhereClock to reset your computer's internal clock. To set the clock, choose Set Time and Date... from the File menu (you can alternately press command-T (‚åòT))
A dialog box will then appear, with the time and date (according to the computer) displayed. Simply click on any of the fields and type in the correct information. The clock will be corrected when you click the OK button (or press RETURN). To exit without changing the clock, click CANCEL.
Please do not confuse the two options. Set Time and Date... allows you to change your computer's internal clock, whereas Display Options... is used to change the time displayed by AClock (the computer's internal clock remains unchanged)
ACLOCK: DISPLAY OPTIONS...
Choosing this menu item brings up the Display Options dialog box:

(NOTE: The "DST Locally" checkbox only appears on computers using System software prior to version 7.5)
The message field contains the message you want to show on the clock's face. It's intended to be used to display the name of a city, but you can type any message you want into the box.
Click the "Use Local Time" if you want the clock to display the same time as your computer's internal clock. (Contrast this wih "Change Time / Select City..." below)
The DST Locally checkbox only appears if you use a version of the System software earlier than 7.5. You should check this box when it is daylight savings time in your local area. (System 7.5 users should check the "Daylight Savings Time" checkbox of your "Date & Time" control panel during daylight savings)
The three checkboxes below Show... allow you to display or not display the message, date, or AM / PM message.
Hand Color and Hand Width give you some control over the customization of your display. If you do not use a custom clockface picture, then the preset settings (black hand color, two point-wide width) should be fine. If, for example, you use a custom clockface picture that is mostly dark colors, you may want to change the hand color to white for contrast.
If your clock hands ever seem to disappear, check here to make sure they aren't set to the same color as the background.
The "Change Time / Select City..." button brings you to the City Selection dialog:

(NOTE: Until you register your copy, the OK button will be dimmed, so you will be able to browse but not make changes.)
At left is a scrolling list of 50 cities. If the city whose time you want to view is one of these cities, all you need to do is to select the city and then click OK.
If the city whose time you want to view is in the same time zone as a city in the list, select the city in the list, click OK, and go back to the Display Options dialog box. There, you can change the message to display the city of your choice.
Finally, if you want to view a city that is different from any in the list, you can type in any time zone in the window. The hours and minutes are reckoned from Greenwich mean time, so they are independent of your local time. To help you, your local time zone is written under the hours and minutes boxes (daylight savings time is factored in if applicable)
There are six radio buttons under Daylight Savings Time: click the one appropriate for the area you want to display. If you're not sure of the exact rule, you can always click "Standard Time (No DST)" to turn daylight savings off for the entire year or "Always On" to turn daylight savings time on for the entire year.
NOTE: the "Always On" button is there for your convenience, but no country actually uses daylight savings time all the time. Russia time is one hour ahead of its respective time zone, but that is not considered to be daylight savings time. (In fact, Russia observes daylight savings time in addition to this: their daylight savings time rules are the same as for western Europe.
If your city is not in the scrolling list and you feel it should be, drop me a note with your city's name, time zone, and daylight savings time rule.
When you return to the Display Options dialog box, it will look something like this:

From here you can modify the message (For example, you could type "Osaka" or any other Japanese city instead of "Tokyo") if you like.
Under Display Will Show: will be the difference between your local time and the time that AClock will display. You can either click "Use Local Time" to reset AClock to display your local time or click "Change Time / Select City..." to change the displayed time again.
When you are satisfied, click OK. If you click Cancel, all changes you've made will be ignored.
